CITY LIGHTS AT 60: Kenneth Rexroth-An Appreciation
Tuesday, December 10th, 2013, 7 P.M., City Lights Bookstore, San Francisco, CA

with Ken Knabb, David Meltzer, and Kim Stanley Robinson

Kenneth Rexroth was a poet, translator, essayist, human catalyst, and quintessential influence upon the BEATS and the world of American letters. He was a central figure in the San Francisco Literary Renaissance and through his salons and influential radio show he created a synthesis of ideas covering politics, literature, cultural studies, and much much more. Rexroth acted as the Master of Ceremonies at the legendary 6 Gallery Reading of HOWL. Though he did not consider himself a BEAT, the BEAT GENERATION holds him in great esteem. Rexroth’s life work encompasses a wide range of interest. This evening will be a discussion with readings from seleted excerpts of his work from three writers and poets who know him best.
